Gurgaon, May 11: Police have admitted to delay in action in arresting the driver of the BMW car that killed two, including a pregnant woman, in Gurgaon last Saturday.
Speaking exclusively to NDTV, Maheshwar Dayal, Deupty Commissioner of Police (East), said "I agree there has been delay in the arrest of the accused in this case, but there are reasons for that." Dismissing allegations of any cover-up, he said "the very fact that there was a delay in the arrest of the accused shows there is no cover up."
The DCP claims that the owner of the BMW car has taken advantage of the loopholes in the law in this case. He said, "we are about to serve another notice, if he doesn't understand we will adopt other measures."
The police are yet to record the testimony of eye-witnesses and interview the other passengers in the BMW. So far, they haven't even questioned the BMW owner.
The BMW was racing at 100 kms per hour. It allegedly belongs to a property dealer in Gurgaon. The police originally said that his son, a college student who was also seriously injured in the accident, was driving the car. However, the property dealer later said his driver, who is now missing, was at the wheel.
