Two killed; protesters torch KSRTC bus

Srirangapatna, May 23: A KSRTC bus was set on fire by a mob when a State bus hit a two-wheeler killing two on the spot and injuring another on the Bangalore-Mysore Highway here on Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as Mahadevu (38), a bill collector at Sabbanakuppe Gram Panchayat and Shreya (3), daughter of Revanna. One of Revanna’s legs has been severed and he has been rushed to a hospital in Mysore.

The protesters threw stones at the fire personnel’s vehicle, which came to douse the blaze and ten other KSRTC buses. Police personnel too had to bear the brunt.

Traffic blocked

For nearly two hours, the Bangalore-Mysore Highway was blocked by the protesters, affecting the traffic.

According to the police, the bus driver, in an attempt to overtake another vehicle, hit the two-wheeler that was coming from Mysore.
