Girls bludgeoned to death

Mahalingapura, June 7: Two teenage girls were bludgeoned to death with a heavy stone when they were fast asleep in their house at Basavanagara, in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Gangavva Shankrappa Patil, 18, and Geetha Shankrappa Patil, 16, are the dead. Two other girls and a three-month-old baby, who were sleeping with the two, have escaped death.

While Mahananda is admitted to a hospital with serious injuries, Kavana and a three-month-old baby, Mallu, are safe.

According to the police sources, it may have been an attempt to kill the four girls. Their parents, Shankrappa Patil and Paravva were sleeping in another room.

They were not aware of the murder till they were told by neighbours, who rushed to the spot after they heard screams.

Bagalkot Superintendent of Police Eshwarachandra Vidyasagar, who rushed to the spot, ruled out the murder for gain angle. He said the cause for the murder was yet to be ascertained. Four special squads have been formed to nab the culprits.
