Udupi: Woman injured, cow electrocuted in rain related mishap

Udupi, June 23: In a rain related mishap, a woman was injured and a cow electrocuted when they came in contact with a livewire at Neelavar in Udupi taluk on Friday.

According to information provided by the Udupi Taluk Office, a livewire had fallen on the ground and it electrocuted a cow in the house of Ananta Naik. Mr. Naik’s neighbour Sugandhi Shedti suffered electric shock and had been rushed to a hospital.

As many as two houses and a cow shed were damaged because of rains and winds on June 21 evening in Udupi taluk. The house of Sadhu Poojary was damaged at Uppoor when a jackfruit tree fell on it and the loss was estimated at Rs. 15,000.

The house of Sitaram Shanbhag was damaged at Kudrukatte at Sheriyar and the loss was estimated at Rs. 6,000. A cow shed belonging to Bagi Bhandarti was damaged in the same village and the loss was estimated at Rs. 15,000. According to information provided by the Deputy Commissioner’s office here, Udupi received a rainfall of 95.8 mm in the last 24 hours ended at 8.30 a.m. on Friday.
