Amritsar, July 10: A woman from Amritsar, who claims her husband raped their seven-year-old adopted daughter, killed the minor by stabbing her last night. The 40-year-old later tried to kill herself by cutting her veins. She however survived and is currently being treated at a hospital.
Sakshi had lodged a complaint against her husband Ramesh Kumar three days ago. But after Mr Kumar's arrest, her in-laws allegedly harassed her. This, she claims, made her take the extreme step.
In a note written before committing suicide, Sakshi has narrated how she allegedly caught her husband sexually abusing their daughter.
Amritsar police has registered a case against her. "A woman named Sakshi had registered an FIR saying that her husband had raped their daughter. After investigation, it was found that the mother murdered the child. She then tried to commit suicide. She has been admitted to a hospital. We are probing the matter further," said Investigating Officer Baljit Singh.
Sakshi is recovering in Amritsar's Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. She is said to be serious due to heavy blood loss.
The couple got married in 1993. They adopted the seven-year-old from Mr Kumar's elder brother since they didn't have a child of their own.
