Beed (Maharashtra), October 2: A 27-year-old woman from Maharashtra’s Beed district, infamous for its high incidence of female foeticide, was allegedly strangulated to death by her in-laws for giving birth to a girl for the third time, the police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday night around 11 p.m. in Malikpura area of Parli tehsil following a quarrel among them, they said.

Shaikh Taslima, mother of two girls and a boy, delivered the baby last month after which she was allegedly tortured by her husband Shaikh Navab and his family, alleges a police complaint filed by her brother Shaikh Shaukat.

Taslima, who was married for seven years, was being harassed for dowry for quite some time, he said.

On Sunday night, an altercation among the family members took an ugly turn and she was strangulated to death.

A case has been registered against her husband, brother-in-law Shaikh Mukram and mother-in-law Anwar Bi Shaikh under Sections 302, 498 (A) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, the police said.
