Kunigal (Tumkur dist), Feb 18: Six persons were killed and 25 injured in two accidents on NH-48 near Anchepalya on the outskirts of Kunigal town on Sunday night.
In a serial accident, four persons died on the spot when a speeding sand-laden lorry rammed a car, and seven other vehicles following them. The 25 injured passengers, nine of them children, were occupants of these seven vehicles.
All the vehicles involved in the accident – four cars, two SUVs, a tanker and a van – were speeding towards Bangalore from various places such as Hassan, Mangalore and Dharmasthala, said sources.
First aid
The injured have been shifted to Bangalore after providing them first aid in the government hospital in Kunigal, said Kunigal police.
In the other incident, Manjuanth, Venkatesh, Raghavendra and Jagadish, all from Bangalore, were returning from Dharmasthala, when the tyre of their car burst and the car hit a signboard at Singonahalli Agrahara, the police added.
Manjunath and Venkatesh died on the spot and the two others were injured.
