Bangalore, Sep 3: An 11-year-old girl committed suicide on Sunday night after her elder brother refused to let her watch a cartoon channel on TV at their residence in city's outskirts of Kadugodi.

The girl, a Class VI student and the daughter of a cab driver, and her 14-year old bother were watching a sports channel. The girl wanted to switch over to a cartoon channel but her brother didn't give her the remote. The siblings argued, even as parents Rani and Kumar looked on. After a while, the girl left the hall in a huff and locked herself up in the bedroom.

Her parents didn't suspect anything amiss. Around 10.30pm, the family knocked on the door to call her for dinner, but there was no response. They broke the door open to find the girl hanging from the ceiling fan by her mother's sari.

"According to Kumar, his daughter was alive, but doctors at a nearby hospital declared her dead on arrival. We've taken up a case of unnatural death based on Kumar's complaint," police said.
