CSK didn’t score enough against KKR: MS Dhoni

September 18, 2014

Sep 18: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni feels his side didn’t score enough runs to defend against a side like Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Andre Russell smashed a breathtaking half century while Ryan ten Doeschate struck a fine unbeaten 51 to guide IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders to a three-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in a Group A match of the Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) 2014.

Chasing a competitive 158 for win, KKR were in trouble after slumping to 51 for five inside 10 overs. But Russell (58 off 25) and Ten Doeschate shared match-winning 80 runs for the sixth wicket off just 42 balls to keep KKR afloat.

After Russell’s dismissal, Ten Doeshchate took the onus on himself to guide KKR home and managed to achieve that with six balls to spare.

“I don’t think we had enough runs on the board. Their spinners bowled very well. I didn’t know if we could defend 160 on this track, but the pacers bowled very well,” he said.

Dhoni also hailed the efforts of Russell, Ten Doeschate and Narine. “The difference was their lower-order batting, especially Russell and the other guy [Ten Doeschate],” he said.
