Mangalore, Jan 13: In the wake of heightened communal hatred in the coastal district following recent untoward incidents and provocative speeches, the District Congress Committee in Dakshina Kannada has come out with the plan to hold a series of awareness meetings to strengthen the party and promote harmony.
Addressing the media persons on Monday, the party district in charge president Kodichal Ibrahim said meetings will be held at Puttur and Mangalore constituencies on January 20.
He said that RSS leader Prabhakar Bhat has hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims and Christians. “He has not only hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims and Christians, but also has brought disgrace to Hindu community and culture. We already spoke with chief minister Siddarmaiah and home minister KJ George to take action against Bhat," he said.

A communal harmony / protest meet organised by the Congress to condemn Bhat's hate speech at Gurupur on Sunday had witnessed chaos with party workers raising slogans against veteran leader B Janardhan Poojary and the government. Party workers had shouted slogans demanding the arrest of Bhat in the Congress meet.
He said meeting at Moodbidri, Bantwal will be organized on January 21, Sullia on 22, Mangalore South on January 26 and at Belthangady constituency on January 27.
