Dakshina Kannada ZP CEO takes charge as in-charge DC after N Prakash's transfer

Mangalore, Dec 14: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner N Prakash has been transferred to Bangalore and since the new DC is yet to be appointed Zilla Panchayat CEO Tulasi Maddineni will take over the administration of the district temporarily.

Mr Prakash will take charge as the Labour Commissioner.

The outgoing DC was given a warm farewell in the DC's office on Friday. Accepting the farewell Mr Prakash said that he was satisfied with administration he had given in the district during his tenure and also thanked all the officials for their co-operation.

DC with difference

Mr Prakash was felicitated during the programe by the officials who were present at the event.

The outgoing DC in a rather rarest of the rare sight took out the shawl wrapped around him during the felicitation and put it on an official at the DC office named Manohar and said that hardworking officials like Manohar deserve 'Bharat Ratna' for their sincere service.

Mr Prakash had taken charge on December 3, 2012, but he was transferred for a brief period during Assembly elections and Harsha Gupta was appointed as the DC here.

After the elections Mr Prakash resumed charge as DC Of the district.

MCC commissioner Ajith Hegde, legal advisor M B Patil, Dr Prashant, and Puttur AC Krishnamurthy were present.

Mangaluru, Sep 19: Following the recent Nipah virus-related fatalities in Kerala, health authorities in Dakshina Kannada are taking proactive measures to monitor for potential cases of monkey fever. While typically found in African countries, monkey fever has raised concerns within the district, prompting increased vigilance.

To ensure early detection, travelers arriving at Mangaluru’s international airport and local ports will undergo health screenings. Additionally, a dedicated ambulance has been placed on standby for any emergent cases, and Wenlock Hospital has set aside a special ward with six reserved beds specifically for monkey fever patients.

"We currently have no confirmed cases of monkey fever in Dakshina Kannada, and there are no direct orders from the state government," said Dr. Timmaiah, the District Health Officer. "However, we are taking preventive measures, including continuous screening of incoming passengers. A special meeting is also being planned to discuss future action steps."

Dr. Timmaiah further highlighted the rise in general viral infections following the region's recent shift in weather patterns. "With the decline in rainfall, we are seeing an uptick in viral cases, particularly fevers accompanied by cough, cold, and throat pain, especially in children. Though Mangaluru has experienced mostly sunny weather, occasional rain at night has contributed to the spread of illnesses. It’s crucial for the public to remain vigilant and take preventive measures."

Health officials are urging residents to seek timely medical advice and follow recommended precautions to mitigate the spread of infectious diseases.
