Mumbai, Feb 3: Underworld don Dawood Ibrahim's brother Iqbal Kaskar was arrested by Mumbai Police on Tuesday, as per reports.
He has been arrested in assault and extortion case in Mumbai.
Reacting on the development, Kiren Rijiju, MoS Home, said, "Obviously if we capture someone who falls under the 'wanted' list it is an achievement for us," as per media reports.
Earlier Kaskar and his two associates were booked by the police following a complaint by an estate agent.
An FIR was registered last night at Byculla police station after a complaint by Salim Shaikh, an estate agent that Kaskar and his men had demanded Rs 3 lakh after thrashing him last Friday, police said, as per some sources.
The alleged incident occurred in a room at Damarwala building at Pakmodia Street in South Mumbai's Bhendi Bazar area, police added.
The case was subsequently transferred to JJ Marg police station as the place where the alleged extortion took place falls in its jurisdiction.
"Kaskar and two others were booked under IPC sections 385 (Putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention)," said Anil Madvi, senior inspector at JJ Marg police station.
The 48-year-old victim, who is a resident of Byculla, first approached the local police station where the FIR was registered and then the matter was transferred to JJ Marg police.
Kaskar had been deported to India from the United Arab Emirates in 2003. Dawood's fifth sibling was wanted in a murder case and his alleged role in the controversial Sara Sahara case where a building came up illegally on government land but a court acquitted him in both the cases in 2007.
