Mangalore, Feb 4: A youth with criminal antecedents was dragged out from a bus and hacked to death by a gang of unidentified miscreats on Tuesday at Kulai near Surathkal on the outskirts of the city.
The deceased has been identified as Prakash.
The police, who suspect gang rivalry to be the motive behind the killing, said Prakash was arrested and granted bail in Kodikere Shivaraj murder case.
According to eyewitness, the gang barged into the bus in which he was travelling and attacked him with swords and chopper near NIT-K area, even as the shocked passengers watched helplessly.
“The bus driver moved the vehicle immediately after Prakash was dragged out. The gang then started hacking the youth indiscriminately and fled the spot in cars," said an eyewitness.
Prakash collapsed in a pool of blood and died on the spot. Police rushed to the spot and sent the body for postmortem to Wenlock hospital.
He was with his father in a bus moving towards Udupi after routine signing at Panambur police station in Shivaraj murder case.
Police are yet to identify the suspects, but the incident has sparked outrage among residents of Kulai and Surathkal with regard to the assaults in the last three weeks.
