Bantwal, Feb 4: Following the death of four persons from the same family in a ghastly road mishap, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim paid a condolence visit to the Bantwal government hospital on Tuesday afternoon to learn more about the family and the deceased.
He enquired about the mishap with the police, and informed about writing a letter to the government asking for financial help for the kin of the deceased.
Tahsildar Malleswami, Bantwal circle inspector Rajashekhar Maistry, sub-inspector Sanjith Kallur and Nagaraj were present.
Former union minister B Janardhan Poojary, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, BJP leaders Padmanabha Kottary and Rajesh Naik, Congress leader Mamata Gatty and several others paid a condolence visit to the deceased's house in Bantwal taluk.
The mishap occurred on Monday night at Panemangalore bridge near B C Road. Seven members of the same family, including two brothers, their wives and children were plying in a Tata Ace when a speeding bus rammed into the vehicle, killing four persons on the spot.
Bhasker and Jagadish, sons of Lakshman Poojary, their wives Prema and Suprita, and children Rithijna, Abhijna and Nishan were travelling in the Tata Ace.
Due to the impact of the mishap, Bhasker, Jagadish, Prema and Suprita were killed instantly. The three children who sustained injuries in the accident were admitted to a private hospital in Mangalore. The condition of four-year-old Nishan is said to be critical, according to hospital sources.
Soon after the incident, both the driver and the conductor of the bus fled from the scene.
As the accident occurred on the bridge, the traffic was at a standstill for over an hour.
A case has been registered and Bantwal police are on the lookout for the driver and conductor.
