Bantwal, Jan 5: The valedictory programme of the decennial ceremony of the Melkar Women’s Pre-University and Degree College, managed by the Mangalore Education Enhancement Trust, was held today on the college campus at Marnabail in Bantwal taluk.
Inaugurating the event Y Abdulla Kunhi, Chancellor of Yenepoya University, hailed S M Rasheed, chairman of the Trust for his selfless efforts to educate underprivileged girls by setting up educational institution in rural and backward area.
“It is not easy to run an educational institution in rural and backward area. This institution has achieved greater height in a short span of time,” he said wishing greater success to the institution in years to come.
Presiding over the function, S M Rasheed said that his institution has been giving equal priority to spiritual education along with material education. He also announced his plan to launch B Ed and Shariath course in the future.
Former minister B Ramanath Rai released the memoir of the college titled ‘Dashakadiru’. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the S M Rasheed has been contributing to the development of the district by imparting value based education to the rural girls.
He further said: “It is a good development that Muslim girls are doing well in the field of education and bagging ranks in recent years. However, sadly many boys are discontinuing education half way through. This trend should be stopped.”
U T Khader, minister for urban development and Dakshina Kannada district in-charge, assured all support to the institution and its founder to continue to serve the underprivileged people.
Mohammad Beary of Muslim Education Institution, Iqbal Ahmed, chairman Mithra Academy, Arakere, Trustees H K Khasim Ahmed, Johar Bava, Mansoor Ahmed were present among others. On the same occasion college principle Abdul Latheef and lecturer Abdul Majeed were felicitated.
College Student Sawmya Prabhu honoured U T Khader with a flower banquet.
