Bengaluru, Feb 25: A fight between college students and a group of delivery guys at a bar led to a sedition case being filed at the Puttenahalli police station at JP Nagar in Bengaluru.
According to sources six college students – three girls and three boys – had been to a bar in the evening. A bunch of delivery guys sitting next to their table. A fight occurred between them and after some time Rafeeq, one of the Zomato delivery agents landed up at the jurisdictional police station and alleges that the students were raising slogans of ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ in front of the bar.
“On February 22, the three accused raised their hands and shouted slogans in front of Brahma’s bar. They repeatedly said ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ and also shouted slogans against the state government. This hurt the sentiments of the people,” Rafeeq’s complaint stated.
The head constable of the station then filed a case of sedition (under 124A, 153 and 34 of Indian Penal Code) against the three boys, all of whom have Kumar Singh as their surnames.
Later, the students filed a counter-complaint alleging that the Zomato delivery agent overheard their conversation on the Pulwama attack and Pakistan. He then called his companions and misled others. They registered a complaint under IPC 143, 144, 147, 148, 504, 341, 323, 324, 506 and 149.
K Annamalai, South Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), has said the sedition case is wrong and ensured that the cases will be closed after consulting the complainants.
