Mangaluru, Aug 2: A youth, who was suffering from dengue fever died yesterday in Mangaluru. If the health officials formally confirms the cause of the death as dengue it will be fifth death due to dengue in Dakshina Kannada district in last one month.
The deceased has been identified as Karhtik from Mulihithlu in Bolar area in the city.
DHO Dr Ramakrishna Rao, confirming the death of Karthik, said the department is yet to confirm the cause of death.
“The patient was admitted to a private medical college hospital in the city recently with fever and other symptoms, and he died today,” Dr Rao said.
It may be recalled that video journalist Nagesh Padu, who was working with a Kannada News channel, died of dengue a few days ago.
Meanwhile, the death of a woman reported at Kabaka near Puttur was confirmed as a dengue case through the Elisa test. An eight-year-old boy from Kodialbail and a 12-year-old girl from Gujjarakere in the city, also had died due to dengue.
On Thursday, 49 patients suffering from fever were admitted at various hospitals in the district.
The district administration, health department and Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) have been continuing their drive against dengue. Teams conducted spot inspections and collected fines to the the tune of Rs 5,000 for mosquito breeding and waterlogging from defaulters.
