In her suicide note, U Abhijat, 32, blamed a restaurant owner for her death. Her mother, who reported the suicide, said Abhijat had a heated argument with a person till late on Friday night.

Abhijat, employed with a Chennai company, often visited her widowed mother, a resident of JMJ Apartments in Indiranagar.

In her note, she accused a man who runs a high-end restaurant on 100 Feet Road, Indiranagar, of spurning her after promising to marry her.

Abhijat lost her father Umesh Kumar a few years ago, and made it a point to be with her mother during holidays.

"It was her mother who reported the suicide. She found the room locked from inside and when there was no response, she panicked and came to us. Her mother also told us her daughter was engaged in a heated argument till late Friday night, after which she retired to her room," said a police officer.

Nobody in the family knew about Abhijat's alleged affair with the restaurateur, who is reportedly her batchmate. "We are questioning the person named in the note. We take up a case of abetment of suicide against him only after verification," police said.
