Mangalore, Dec 14: The death of Dinesh Kumar (23) after his motorcycle was run over by a vehicle, at Ujire has taken several twists and turns. The death, which is now billed as murder by the family members of Dinesh have pointed at Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari's supporters of murdering him.

Though the police had booked the case as an accident, they had to later consider it as a murder case following massive demonstration from victim's relatives and supporters.

When the mishap occurred, the family members of the victim had filed a murder case, which was later changed to accident by victim's father. Later, the family members said that Dinesh Kumar was killed by some influential persons and the case was again changed to murder case.

Babu Gowda, victim's father briefing press person here on Saturday demanded probe into his son's death and said that Dinesh had spoken to him of threat from people from Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala.

“My son has been actively participating in a series of protests held in support of Saujanya. When my son died, I was in a dilemma. My brother Sidappa Gowda and Shyam Sundar Gowda took me to the police station and said that I should register an accident complaint and say that I am not sure of the cause for Dinesh's death. I did as my brother said but I later felt something was fishing because while I was returning home from magistrate's house ASI of Belthangady police station Kalaimar handed over Rs 40,000 to me,” he said adding that now that he knows it fully well that his son was killed by Balakrishna Poojary, the driver of the vehicle and a supporter of Dharmadhikari, he wants a probe into the case.

Activist Mahesh Shetty Thimarody said that earlier victim's parents had stated that it was an accident. But now they realise that it was a pre-planned murder.

“Dinesh Kumar was murdered by the supporters of Dharmadikari, who had turned the entire case of murder into a road mishap,” Mr Shetty said adding that it is rather unfortunate to see that despite so many protests the Government is not ready to initiate a CBI probe into Saujanya murder case and has not taken any action against the influential persons of Belthangady.

“Our fight is for justice. Dharmasthala is not the private property of Dr Veerendra Heggade. It belongs to the devotees and the believers.  In Soujanya rape and murder case, we are demanding for CBI probe under the surveillances of Supreme Court in 464 unnatural dead cases in ten years in Dharmasthala and Ujire surroundings and also the death of eye witness in Soujanya rape and murder case,” he demanded.

Mangaluru, Dec 2: Mangaluru International Airport responded to a medical emergency late on Monday night. Air India Express flight IX 522, travelling from Riyadh to Thiruvananthapuram, was diverted to Mangaluru Airport after a passenger in his late 30s experienced a medical emergency on board.

The Airport’s Operations Control Centre received an alert regarding the passenger’s health condition. The airport activated its emergency response protocol, mobilising the airport medical team and coordinating with stakeholders including CISF, immigration, and customs.

Upon landing, airport medical personnel attended to the passenger, assessed his condition, and arranged to shift him to a local tertiary-care hospital for further treatment. The passenger’s relatives accompanied the passenger, who incidentally received necessary medical care on board, which helped stabilise the situation.

Following the handling of the emergency, the flight departed for Thiruvananthapuram at 2:05 am on Tuesday.

"We appreciate the cooperation of all parties involved, and this incident reaffirms our ongoing commitment to prioritising passenger safety and readiness to respond to unforeseen emergencies with professionalism and care," the Airport spokesperson said.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.

Udupi, Dec 1: A horrific case of alleged rape has unfolded in Udupi, where a worker from a Hindutva organisation, previously arrested and released on bail for harassing a young woman, is now accused of waylaying and sexually assaulting her.

The arrested individual has been identified as Pradeep Poojary (26), a member of the Hindu Jagarana Vedike's Nairkode unit in Perdur.

Poojary had allegedly been relentlessly harassing the young woman, pressuring her to marry him. When she bravely stood up to him and refused his demands, she filed a formal complaint at the Hiriyadka police station. He was subsequently arrested in that initial harassment case but was later granted bail.

According to police reports, driven by the same malicious grudge, Poojary allegedly intercepted the woman again on November 29. While she was walking through a deserted area, the accused is claimed to have threatened her by grabbing her neck. When she again refused to marry him, he allegedly proceeded to rape her.

The survivor immediately informed her family about the traumatic assault. Following this, her parents lodged a complaint at the Udupi women’s police station.

Police arrested Poojary again and produced him before the court. He has since been remanded to judicial custody.
