New Delhi, Apr 18: Dipa Karmakar has made history by becoming the first ever Indian gymnast to qualify for the Olympics. In the final qualifier of the Olympic Test event in Rio de Janeiro, she put up an impressive show.

The Tripura girl secured 13.366 and 12.566 points in beam and floor exercises. Her strong show in the qualifier has more or less assured a berth for the upcoming Rio Olympics starting August.

In November last year, she missed out to book a place in the Rio Olympics by finishing fifth. But this time, Dipa ensured nothing went wrong.

Dipa had earlier created history by becoming first woman gymnast to win a medal (bronze) in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014. She then became the first Indian woman gymnast to feature in the finals of World Championships last November.
