Bengaluru, Nov 5: With the government asking people to burst firecrackers only between 8pm and 10pm during Diwali, police are putting in place measures to implement the curbs.
Additional commissioner of police (east) Seemanth Kumar Singh said, "Officers are encouraging community bursting of crackers; the station head officer (SHO) has been directed to implement the orders. Hoysala patrol vehicles will keep vigil too. We are coordinating with BBMP to identify open spaces where people can burst crackers safely."
Police are i n fix as there are no specific sections to register cases against violators. They will probably be booked under Karnataka Police Act 1963 (punishment of certain street offences and nuisance), sources said. The government said crackers can be burst on November 5, 6, 7 and 8, 8pm and 10pm.
Officers said, "It is hard to enforce the new rules in short notice, but we are making serious attempts to implement the SC order."
