DK BJP releases 'Nooru Hejje' to highlight Nalin's achievements

Mangalore, Oct 30: The Dakshina Kannada district unit of BJP released a book on Wednesday highlighting the achievements of Nalin Kumar Kateel in 100 days after being re-elected as the MP of Dakshina Kannada constituency.

Speaking after releasing the book Nooru Hejje' (100 Steps) in the presence of Nalin Kumar Kateel, BJP district president Pratap Simha Nayak said that the book would be an answer to the critics of Mr Kateel and his performance as an MP.

The book also helps to shed light upon the various milestones he has created. He has participated in eight different discussions in the Parliament after being re-elected and raised 86 questions. Proposals have been sent to the union government for over 83 developmental works for which Rs 2.50 crore has already been released in the first phase. A sum of Rs 50 crore has also been released for the development of beaches in the coastal districts in the state, out of which Rs 13.70 crore has been earmarked for the development of five beaches in Dakshina Kannada, he said.

He said that the book also comprised of the achievements of Narendra Modi-led union government in the last three months. The released book will reveal the performance of the central government and its administration in the past 100 days, as most people are unaware about the various programmes launched by the government, he said.

He further said that the BJP district committee would release similar books every three months detailing the achievements and progress of the MP.

District to mark success of Jan-Dhan programme

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kateel said that there was a plan to organise a huge programme to mark the success of Prime Minister Jan-Dhan programme launched by Narendra Modi as the district achieved nearly 100 percent in opening new bank accounts for non-account holders. Union Minister of State for Commerce Nirmala Sitharaman will participate in the programme, he said.

Former MLC K Monappa Bhandary and other BJP leaders were present.

Bengaluru, Oct 17: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday announced that all government residential schools in the state will be renamed as Maharishi Valmiki Residential Schools.

He further said that the Raichur University will be renamed as Maharishi Valmiki University, news agency ANI reported.

He made the announcement on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti, which is celebrated to honor Maharishi Valmiki, the revered author of the Ramayana.

Earlier today, the Karnataka CM paid rich tributes to Valmiki in a series of posts on X.

"Let the life and achievements of Dalit genius, Adi Kavi Valmiki, who wrote the epic Ramayana and showed that talent is not a gift of birth, but an achievement, be an inspiration to all of us," he said.

Mangaluru: The MLC by-election for the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Local Authorities Constituency commenced at 8 AM on Monday, with voting set to continue until 4 PM. A total of 392 polling booths have been established across the two districts, which form the constituency.

The constituency has 6,032 eligible voters, including 3,127 women. Early reports indicated brisk voting at the Mangaluru City Corporation polling booth, where corporators were seen patiently standing in line in the morning.

In a unique moment, Sharath, a gram panchayat member from Kokkada, cast his vote at Kokkada Gram Panchayat before heading to his wedding ceremony.

The constituency features 53 sensitive polling booths. Eligible voters include members of gram panchayats, corporators from Mangaluru City Corporation, city and town municipal councils, town panchayats, MLAs, MLCs, and Lok Sabha members representing the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

Notably, Byndoor MLA Gururaj Gantihole and MLC Prathap Simha Nayak, who do not represent local bodies, were left out of the voters' list. According to electoral rules, only those MLAs, MLCs, and MPs who represent city corporations, municipalities, town panchayats, taluk panchayats, or zilla panchayats are granted voting rights in the MLC elections for the Local Authorities’ Constituency.

Mangaluru, Oct 27: Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chowta has been appointed to the consultative committee of the Ministry of Defence. 

This esteemed committee, led by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, comprises 14 members from the Lok Sabha, six from the Rajya Sabha, and two nominated members. 

Capt. Chowta is among the 14 members selected from the Lok Sabha to represent the voice of the people in this critical sector.

The committee is tasked with providing expert advice to the government on key defence policies, implementation strategies, and national security matters.

Meetings will be held regularly to ensure informed, timely guidance on these crucial issues, according to a press release from MP Chowta's office.

“With our country making strides towards self-reliance in defence under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, it’s an honour to serve as a member of the Ministry of Defence Advisory Committee. As both a soldier and a parliamentarian, this role is a true privilege,” expressed Capt. Chowta.
