Karawar, Jun 24: One person was killed and several others injured when a private luxury bus plying from Mangaluru to Mumbai met with an accident at Yellapur in Uttara Kananda district late night on Monday.
Mahabala Poojary, a resident of Kundapur, who was driving the ill-fated bus, was killed in the tragedy. At least four persons suffered severe injuries, while other passengers escaped with minor injuries.
It is learnt that the tragedy took place when the driver of the belonging to Anand Travels bus veered to the extreme left in a bid to avoid a huge tree fallen on the highway.
Unfortunately, the driver lost control over his vehicle and collided with an oncoming truck.
The truck driver, identified as Udaya, and two other were immediately rushed to local hospital for treatment.
The travel agency reportedly send another bus to ferry stranded passengers to Mumbai safely.
Mahabala Poojary's mortal remains were brought to his hometown Kundapur on Tuesday. Udupi district-in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake among others paid last respect the departed soul.
A case has been registered at Yellapur police station and investigations are on.
