Kasaragod/ Ahmedabad, Jun 15: Eid-ul-Fitr was celebrated in Kerala and Gujarat a few other parts of India on Friday whereas in most of India the festival will be celebrated on Saturday.
Eid-ul-Fitr marks the culmination of the holy month of Ramadan or Ramadan. Thursday was the last day of Ramadan in Kerala as Shawwal moon was sighted in Kozhikode last evening.
In Gujarat, people celebrated Eid by offering special prayers.
In Delhi, the announcement on the celebration of Eid was made by Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari. Bukhari made the announcement after a meeting of the moon-sighting committee in New Delhi, a senior official at the city’s historic mosque said. “The moon was not sighted on Thursday. So, that means the Eid will be celebrated on Saturday in Delhi and several other parts of the country,” he said.
In Lucknow, the Markazi Chand Committee also announced how, since the moon had not been sighted, Eid would be held on June 16.
In Maharashtra, West Bengal and Assam, there remains a slim possibility of Eid being celebrated on Sunday, if the crescent remains invisible tomorrow.
