Mangalore, Dec 12: As many as eight fishermen who were stranded deep sea in the boat due to technical glitch were successfully rescued along with the boat.
These fishermen had ventured into the sea on December 6 from Kochi in a fishing boat named 'Arogyamatha'. After sailing 52 nautical miles, on December 8 the boat faced problem in the gear box.
When all their efforts to send distress signals failed, they remained deep sea waiting to seek help from other fishing boats.
However, the stranded fishermen sought help of a ship, which pulled the boat 12 nautical miles.
At this point the Chennai Coast Guards who were patrolling found the stranded boat and pulled it to NMPT area.
Coastal Security Police Inspector Y Gangereddy and others rushed to NMPT and took stock of the situation. Two fishermen who had taken ill were admitted to the hospital.
Later on, the stranded boat was pulled to old fisheries port on December 11 using a fisheries boat named Lakshmi.
Anthony, Subhash, Stalin, Arogyam, Prince, Thadeyos, Ruban, Benedict are the rescued fishermen.
