Engineering student assaulted inside principal’s chamber at PA College

Mangaluru, Nov 9: In a shocking incident an engineering student was allegedly assaulted by a group of 15 students inside the chamber of the college principal in Konaje police station limits in Mangaluru taluk.

The victim has been identified as Venkataramana, a third year BE (civil) student at PA College of Engineering, Nadupadavu, near Konaje.

According to the police, Venkataramana was in a discussion with the principal on Saturday evening. At that moment, Vajir and 14 others, all fourth year students of BE (mechanical) entered the chambers and assaulted Venkataramana.

The police said Vajir held a stone in his hand and thrashed it on the victim’s head. However, other students and the staff intervened and rescued the victim.

The principal later approached the Konaje police and registered an FIR. The police have registered a case of rioting against the accused.

They said the principal did not say it was an incident of ragging, nor it was found to be one during the police investigation. The victim is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in nearby Deralakatte. While the victim hailed from Ballari, Vajir hailed from Kannur, the police added.

Mangaluru: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a young medical store owner on Monday, January 6, near Tiblapadavu, Natekallu, located on the outskirts of the city.

The victim, identified as 25-year-old Ausaf, was the proprietor of Hajira Medicals and the son of Jaleel, a resident of Derlakatte. 

The unfortunate incident unfolded as Ausaf was riding his bike from Derlakatte toward Tiblapadavu. Upon approaching a divider near Tiblapadavu, a lorry made a sudden turn, resulting in a collision between the motorbike and the rear of the lorry. Ausaf succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

Having completed his education a few years ago, Ausaf had taken up the responsibility of managing Hajira Medicals at Derlakatte Junction. He was well-known in his community for his dedication and service.

Authorities at the Mangaluru South Traffic Police Station have registered a case, and CCTV footage capturing the incident is under review. The tragic loss has left the local community in shock, mourning the untimely demise of a promising young entrepreneur.
