Bangalore, Jul 29: City police claim to have got the better of a call centre employee who allegedly cloned the SIM card of Kannada actress Radhika Pandit and sent unsolicited text messages to numbers found in her contacts list.

Abhishek, 20, allegedly created a parallel SIM card of Pandit’s number with the help of a woman who works with a mobile service provider. He allegedly convinced her to get him a cloned SIM card of the actress’ number. He then sent text messages to numbers in the SIM memory, police said.

Investigators looking into Pandit’s complaint consulted mobile phone experts and found that the text messages were sent from a parallel number. The cloned SIM card was traced to Kolar, and to the suspect, Abhishek, who works in Whitefield.

Pandit had filed a complaint at Subramanya Nagar police station on Friday, saying that a few unsolicited SMSs were sent from her phone number to the contacts stored in her phone book, without her knowledge.

Subramanya Nagar police have registered a case of cheating against Abhishek under Section 420 of the IPC. They are questioning the woman who allegedly helped him procure the card.
