Lucknow, Aug 30: Expelling a class X student on charges of indiscipline proved costly for a school principal when he was shot at and critically injured by the student in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnore district, about 450 km from capital Lucknow.
According to sources in the police, the student, Deepanshu Singh, a resident of Narawali village in the district, had been expelled by the principal Sanjeev Kumar after he assaulted some of his classmates a few days ago.
"Earlier, too, Deepanshu had assaulted his classmates....he had been warned but it did not have any effect on him,'' said a teacher.
Sources said Deepanshu had failed in the high school examination and had taken admission in the school after being denied admission in his old school.
Deepanshu met the principal with his mother on Wednesday and requested him to withdraw his expulsion, but he declined.
Enraged over the refusal, Deepanshu, who carried a country-made pistol in his pocket, fired at the principal in the office after his mother left.
The principal sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the hospital. Deepanshu managed to escape from there, sources said.
Police said that they were trying to find out from where Deepanshu got the pistol. A case has been registered at Syohara police station and a hunt is on to nab Deepanshu.
