Mysuru, Mar 1: A 49-year-old farmer ended his life in Uyigowdanahalli, Hunsur talukcommitted suicide by hanging on Tuesday. Inability to settle his debts, which amounted to nearly Rs 2 lakh, has been cited as the reason for pushing Jayaramegowda to take the extreme step.
The victim’s wife Poornima said that her husband was engaged in the cultivation of banana, cotton and tobacco in Kudineer Muddanahalli, where he had two acres. “He had borrowed Rs 80,000 from a cooperative bank, and an additional Rs 1 lakh from a private moneylender. He was unable to reap a good harvest owing to drought, and was unable to clear his loans, “ she said.
Hunsur rural police have registered a case in connection with Jayaramegowda’s death.
