Bengaluru, Oct 29: In spite of heavy rains that lashed last week, Diwali, the festival of lights continued to damage eyes of innocent people, especially children across Karnataka like rest of the country.
Between Saturday and Tuesday, over a hundred children reportedly suffered eye injuries in different parts of the state.
On Sunday night alone, around a dozen people got treatment at Bengaluru’s Narayana Nethralaya with eye injuries.
Last year 38 people had been treated for eye injury in the same hospital during Diwali.
"Out of the 11 cases, 10 were children. Some had slightly deeper injuries. It was not severe," said Uma, manager, Narayana Nethralaya.
Three of the injured were bystanders. One of them was an adult aged 50 while the rest were children as young as three.
Meanwhile at state-run Minto Opthalmic Centre in Benglauru, 10 cases of eye injuries from crackers were reported. Out of this, eight happened on Sunday. Four out of those injured were bystanders. They have sustained simple injuries according to doctors who treated them.
