FIH Women's World League: India moves to finals after defeating Thailand

New Delhi, Mar 15: India defeated Thailand by 5-0 to storm into the finals of the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Women's Hockey World League Round 2, which took place at the Major Chand National Stadium in New Delhi.

India defeated Thailand by 6-0 in the pool stages and within 11 minutes from penalty stroke, India opened their account which was successfully converted by Jaspreet Kaur.

After five minutes, Sunita Lakra (16th) doubled India's lead by converting a penalty corner, whereas in the 22nd minute, Poonam Rani scored a field goal to make 3-0 in favour of India.

In the third quarter, Rani Rampal (40th) made it to 4-0 with a field effort before Amandeep Kaur (53rd) hit another for India, from a penalty corner.

On March 15, 2015, India will be facing Poland in the summit clash. It should be noted that India had earlier defeated Poland in the pool stages by 2-0.

In a statement by the Poland coach Krzysztof Rachwalski, he said that they have improved in the tournament with each game and did well in the quarter-finals against Russia. During the match against Malaysia, they managed to score only one goal but it was enough for them to win the game.

During the fifth to eighth position classification matches, Kazakhstan had defeated Singapore by 2-1 in a close encounter, whereas Russian thrashed Ghana by 7-1.
