Bengaluru, Dec 8: Central Bureau of Investigation has registered an FIR against head cashier of State Bank of Mysore, Kollegal branch and others. The accused is Parashiva Murthy.
A source said that Parashiva Murthy is the custodian of currency chest of SBM's Kollegal branch. He had entered into a conspiracy with a few other bank officials and public servants and exchanged demonetised old notes. A preliminary enquiry has revealed that he disbursed new notes to the tune of Rs 1.51 crore between November 11 and 13 for pecuniary gains for himself. He had allowed the exchange of old currency with Rs 100 notes to some selected individuals without obtaining an application for exchange with proof of ID or approval of the branch head.
The demonetised currency received was thereafter deposited into the currency chest of the branch along with the other old cash disguising it as genuinely exchanged currency.
He has been booked under IPS sections 120 (b), 409, 420 and sections 13 (2) and 13 (1) (d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
