Mangalore, Jan 14: A minor fire broke out at the junction box of the conditioning unit of Syndicate Bank branch on Monday night.

District Fire Officer Shivappa Gowda who was at the spot manning the operations said that the junction box was kept at a congested place, where it was difficult even a person to approach. Though there was no fire in the building, the indirect loss due to soot and smoke getting into the building through the air conditioning duct would be huge,'' said Gowda.

The officer was also peeved that batteries, debris like flammable material being kept near the room. "The junction box should be easily accessible in case of such occurrences and should be free from such rubbish which may have resulted in a greater fire. It is irresponsible of the authorities to treat fire safety like this,'' he said.
