Mumbai, Dec 18: A major fire broke out on December 17 at a Mumbai-based hospital where some people were feared trapped, an official said.
Six people have reportedly lost their lives in the fire that broke out at the ESIC Kamgar Hospital in suburban Andheri, Mumbai, while 147 people have been rescued, news agency ANI has reported. The rescue operation is still underway.
Meanwhile, CNN News 18 has reported that at least 100 people have been injured in the fire.
Ten fire tenders and one rescue van have been rushed to the spot.
The fire brigade got a call around 4 pm about the blaze at the government-run hospital, the official from the city civic body's disaster management cell said.
“The inquiry is on. The reason for the fire is yet to be known. Rescue operations are still on. Action will be taken against MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation) if found guilty,” Vishwanath Mahadeshwar, Mumbai mayor told CNN News18.
