Udupi, September 6: Four more persons tested positive for leptospirosis in Udupi district on Wednesday. With this, the total number of persons suffering from the disease has gone up to 10.
District Health and Family Welfare Officer Ramachandra Bairy said that a case each of leptospirosis had been reported from Hebri, Katapady, Kediyoor and Kurkal villages in the district.
Of the four persons, who tested positive on Wednesday, three were men. Two of the four patients had been admitted to Adarsh Hospital in Udupi, and one each to the District Government Hospital in Udupi, and Community Health Centre in Hebri. The department was holding awareness programmes on leptospirosis at the primary health centre-level. Some gram panchayats had distributed pamphlets, he said.
People should go to hospitals immediately if they had fever. People working in fields and involved in sand mining were more likely to be affected by leptospirosis. Hence, they should be more cautious, Dr. Bairy said.
