It is said that Shyam Kumar and his friends Hiran Shyam from Thiruvananthapuram, both working as cameramen for Asianet Channel were travelling to Kollur with their families in their Santro car at about 2.30 am on Sunday to perform 'Vidyarambha' ritual of their children.
When the car reached Neralakatte, they approached a Swift car and asked for the route to Kollur.
However, at Eedur on Kollur NH, the same car tried to waylay the Santro.
The gang in the Swift held weapons in hand and signaled Shyam and the others in the Santro to come out of the car. When Shyam refused they hit the glass of the car with a rod. Soon Shyam realized the intention and he fled the car and reached Kollur police station.
He reported to the police about the incident and also informed the car registration number.
When the gang saw Shyam approach the police, it tried to escape and in this bid the car turned turtle at Vandse.
The police nabbed the five who were stuck inside the car.
