Bantwal, Feb 4: At least four members of a family including two men and two women were killed on spot and several others sustained injuries in a ghastly road mishap that took place on Panemangalore bridge near here on Monday late night.
The victims were identified as Bhasker, his wife Prema, Jagadish and his wife Suprita. Bhasker and Jagadish were brothers and sons of Lakshman Poojary. All of them were residents of Mulibeilu in Barimaru village in Bantwal taluk.
The condition of a four year-old child Nishan, son of Jagadish-Suprita is also said to be critical. However, Rithijna and Abhijna, children of Bhasker-Prema also sustained injuries.
They reportedly came to Sarapady village to participate in the baby shower function of sister-in-law of Bhasker and Jagadish and were returning to Barimaru when the mishap occurred.
The accident occurred when a speeding bus rammed into a Tata Ace. The intensity of the crash was such that the Tata Ace was reduced into a bundle of metals.
All the four deceased were travelling on the ill-fated Tata Ace. All of them died on spot and they were lying on pool of blood on the bridge when local people rushed to the spot. They were caught in the mangled remains.
Bantwal Circle Inspector Rajashekhar Misthri and others rushed to spot.
Rash and negligent driving by the KSRTC driver was said to be the reason.
The incident led to traffic jam on National Highway 75.
A case has been registered at Bantwal town police station according to a complaint filed by one Jayanth.
