Udupi, May 18: Top seed International Master Girinath PDS (South Central Railways) won the 1st Udupi Open FIDE Rated Chess Tournament jointly oraganised by Udupi District Chess Association, TA Pai management Institute (TAPMI) and Lions Club Manipal at TA Pai Management Institute, Manipal.
Chief guest Dr Vinod Bhat, Pro Vice Chancellor, Manipal University handed over Kallya Devaraya Shenoy Memorial Trophy to the winner along with Rs Thirty Thousand Cash Prize.
The other guests were Sri K P Achanrya, Chairman, Vidyanikethan Group of Institution Kaup, Dr R C Natarajan, Director TAPMI, Sri Ln Nagesh Kamath, Vice President, Manipal Technologies, Dr Rajgopal Shenoy, President, Udupi District Chess Association, Sri Arvind Shastry, Secretary, United Karnataka Chess Association, International Arbiter, Vasanth BH.
At the end of final round final IM Girinath PDS, IM Shivananda BS scored 8 point each, based on tie break score, Girinath was adjudged as winner and won Rs 3000 cash prize and trophy. IM Shivananda as runner up and won Rs 20000 and trophy. Arvind Shastry and Dhanush Bharadwaj scored seven point five each and placed third and fouth place.
