Udupi, Nov 27: In yet another case of brutality, a young girl was allegedly stabbed to death in broad daylight by a jilted lover, in Kadekar near Malpe on Wednesday, when she refused to return his love.
The victim is Ranjitha (20), daughter of Shekhar, resident of Kadekar. She was a second year degree student in Dr G Shankar Government Women's College in Udupi.
The accused Yogesh (25), an electrician, has gone absconding after reportedly stabbing Ranjitha. The two were neighbours in Patelthota in Kadekar.
It has learnt that Yogesh had been pursuing Ranjitha and trying to win her over from the past year. However, she refused to reciprocate his love each time.
In a fit of rage, Yogesh confronted her on Wednesday morning and demanded a reply to his proposal. When Ranjitha refused, he allegedly stabbed in in broad daylight and fled from the scene.
Finding Ranjitha in a pool of blood, the locals raised the alarm and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Later, her body was shifted to Manipal Hospital for post-mortem.
A case has been registered by Malpe police, and a search is on for Yogesh.
