Mangalore, Feb 15: The officers of Customs at Mangalore International Airport have thwarted three more attempts to smuggle gold by seizing gold weighing 932.500 grams in two separate cases.
In the first case, the officers seized two gold sheets, weighing 466.000 grams and valued at Rs.14, 09,650 concealed in the base of a brown coloured rexine trolley bag from the possession of a passenger named Shereef Abdulkareem, a resident of Cherukara House, Thekkil in Kasargod and arrived at Mangalore International Airport February 14 by Air India Express fight IX384 from Dubai.
In the second case, the officers similarly seized two gold sheets, weighing 466.500 grams and valued at Rs.14,11,162 concealed in the base of a black coloured rexine trolley bag from the possession of a passenger named Riyas Kuchanath Purayil, a is a resident of Ennappara House, Chalingal, Haripuram in Kasaagod and arrived at Mangalore International Airport by Air India Express flight IX384 from Dubai.
Operations were conducted under the supervision of Pravin Vinod, Assistant Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore International Airport.
Further investigation is under progress in both the cases, under the guidance of Commissioner D Purushotham.
