Belthangady, Dec 17: Two groups resorted to fighting on Sunday morning at Manjotti in Nada village of Belthangady taluk, allegedly due to protests held in Saujanya murder case.
According to a complaint filed by Shyam Sundar with the Belthangady police, Mahesh Shetty, Praveen V G, Jayananda, Prakash, Purandar, Venkappa Kotian, Kaushik, Vasanth Gowda, Raghava Kashibettu, Ganesh and Praveen barged into his shop and assaulted him and fled with his gold chain and mobile. The gang had assaulted the ones who had come to his rescue.
Shyam Sundar has said that a provocative speech by Mahesh Shetty had led to the attack.
On the other hand one Purandar in his complaint to Belthangady police has said that Shyam Sundar, Subhashchandra, Prakash Shetty, Naveen Nadabettu, Mohan Gowda, Victor D'Cunha, Harish Gowda had attacked him with cycle chains, bottles and stones. When Yogish Kumar, Kaushik Bangera and other intervened, the gang attacked even them.
The Belthangady police has registered both the complaints.
It is said that on Sunday, a protest was held demanding justice in Saujanya murder case at Manjotti in Nada village. The fight broke out after the protest but the police who were present at the spot had then dispersed the groups.
