Mangaluru, Oct 6: The High Court of Karnataka has quashed a four year-old criminal case against Congress leader and former union minister B Janardhana Poojary in connection with the violation of election code of conduct.
The case was registered by the Mangaluru city police during 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Mr Poojary had filed a petition before the High Court.
Justice P S Dinesh Kumar passed the order while allowing a petition filed by Mr Poojary questioning the legality of registration of a case by the police as well as the cognisance taken by the jurisdictional magistrate based on the charge sheet.
The election officials had lodged a complaint based on Mr. Poojary’s statement made during a press conference, conducted without the prior permission of the EC, in which he promised he would not allow enhancement of property tax and levy of solid waste management cess in Mangaluru.
