Mangalore, Jan 3: Several members of the district unit of Hindu Yuva Sena (HYS) staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office here on Friday, demanding strict action against the perpetrators of Deralakatte kidnap, forced sex and blackmail case.
Addressing the protestors on the occasion, seer of Gurupura Vajradehi Mutt Swami Rajashekharananda said that the eight accused responsible for the heinous crime should be charged with rape and booked under Goonda Act.
Although it is a serious offence, the Home Minister has remained silent in this regard, without urging for Goonda Act or charges of rape. For the sole reason that the accused are minorities, the government is not taking strict action against them, he said.
He said that the struggle for justice would not end and would take the form of a revolution if the government did not take strict action against the criminals.
Yuva Morcha leader Raghavendra said that in the Deralakatte case, it was apparent how local politicians were directly trying to protect the eight accused. The local minister Ramanath Rai is protecting the accused on behalf of minorities lobby in the district, he said.
Alleging that the accused in the Deralakatte case were noted ISI agents, he demanded for a detailed probe and proper chargesheet against them.
Yuva Sena leader Prasanna Ravi also spoke on the occasion. Others such as Sharan Pumpwell, Yashodhar Chowta and Shivakumar Kharje participated in the protest.
A memorandum was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner in this regard.
Prior to the protest, the protestors undertook a jatha from Ambedkar Circle to DC's office.
