Mangalore, June 26: The attack on the Christian prayer hall at Holy Hill is a pre-planned attempt to ignite communal violence in the region, B Janradhana Poojary, Senior Congress leader, said.
Speaking to mediapersons after visiting the prayer hall at Holy Hill on Tuesday, Mr. Poojary said that the attack has been carried out to create communal tension in the region and polarise votes as elections are approaching.
In spite of such incidents occurring repeatedly, the government continues to be in deep slumber. There is a need to carry out a proper investigation and bring to the fore the forces behind this attack, Mr. Poojary said.
History is witness that such incidents have resulted in communal violence. The state government will be responsible if peace is disturbed in the days to come. The government in the state is controlled by Sangh Parivar. People have lost confidence in the police department and if they want to regain it, they will have to arrest the culprits behind this incident, Mr. Poojary said.
Gulzar Banu, Mayor, Harikrishna Bantwal, Congress leader and others were present.
Yogish Bhat, MLA and Deputy Speaker, Karnataka Legislative Assembly, also visited the place.
