Mangaluru, Nov 25: In the wake of recent murder attempt on former minister and incumbent Mysuru Congress MLA Tanveer Sait, the Karnataka home department has decided to provide security to his Mangaluru counterpart U T Khader.
Sources said that the home department has been insisting on providing a gunman for Khader, the Mangaluru (Ullal) MLA, who was a minister in Siddaramaiah-led Congress government and later H D Kumaraswamy led- coalition government.
Even as an MLA or minister, he never wanted a gunman around or policemen in his home office. He wanted people to come and meet him freely. Recently, during his visit to Mysuru, the police had offered him security.
“We suspect there is a threat to the life of former minister UT Khader. We never know what the accused in Sait's case have confessed. Since he is on election campaign, he has given in writing to the Mangaluru City police that he would take the services of the gunman once he returns to Mangaluru,” a source said.
The Mangaluru City Police maintained that UT Khader will be given a gunman when he returns to Mangaluru.
