One killed in Hyderabad building collapse, many feared trapped

Hyderabad, Dec 9: One person died even as at least 10-12 people are feared trappedunder the debris of a multi-storey building that collapsed at IT hub Nanakaramgudalate on Thursday night.

One body has been found under the debris, senior Cyberabad police officials, who reached the location to carry out the rescue mission, said.

Two persons, including a child, were rescued from the collapsed building, and shifted to a hospital, officials said.

Rescue operations are underway and still 10-12 people are feared trapped, Baba Fasiuddin,Deputy Mayor Hyderabad said on building collapse.

About 10 families, mostly labourers, were living in the premises of the building, according to Hyderabad Mayor B Rammohan.

The mishap took place at a G+6 storey building, where painting and flooring work was being done. "At around 10pm, the entire building came crashing down," Madhapur ACP M Ramana Kumar said.

The locals alerted emergency services about the accident and by 10.30pm, police, fire department and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials reached the spot to carry out rescue work.

"The building owned by Satyanarayan Singh was being constructed in a 250 square yards plot at the heart of Nanakramguda village. Neighbours said that families of construction workers and a watchman were staying in the building," Madhapur DCP Vishwa Prasad said.
