Mumbai, May 24: The wife of a police inspector who was part of the team that investigated the Sheena Bora murder case was found stabbed to death at her residence in the Mumbai suburb of Santacruz (east) late on Tuesday night. The couple’s 21-year-old son is missing.

Dipali Ganore, 42, was found in a pool of blood – she had been stabbed in the neck – by her husband, inspector Dnyeshwar Ganore, when he returned home from work.

Police officials said Ganore’s 21-year-old son was missing from Tuesday night. “As of now we cannot comment on who killed Dipali. A case of murder has been registered, and we are investigating all possible angles,” said senior inspector Mahadev Wavale, of Vakola police station.

Ganore, who is posted at the Khar police station, returned home around 11pm from work and found the door was locked. He rang the doorbell and knocked several times, but did not get a response.

He then asked neighbours if they knew where his family was as neither Dipali nor their son was answering his calls. Ganore told the police that he thought the two might have gone shopping and some he decided to wait outside till they returned.

“Around 1am Ganore spotted the keys to his house in the dustbin kept outside the door. He went inside and found his wife in pool of blood in the bedroom,” said inspector Wavale. The Vakola police was informed about the incident and a police team was immediately rushed on the spot.

Dipali was taken to VN Desai hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
