Bengaluru, Jun 23: The family of Manjunath Churi (26) from Karnataka’s Bagalkot, who has gone missing in Germany, is worried with the latest news reaching them about his whereabouts. Churi was pursuing MS at Hamburg University.
Quoting officials of the External Affairs Ministry as saying, P.C. Gaddigoudar, MP, told the family that the German police had found clothes, footwear, and a bicycle suspected to belong to Churi on the bank of a river close to the university. “Further investigation is under way in Germany,” the MP told presspersons.
Churi was doing his master’s after completing engineering from BVV Engineering College in Bagalkot. He went to Germany in September 2015 under a government scholarship. His mother, Mahanadi Churi, said that her son called her almost every day. However, for the last three days there were no calls. His mobile phone was switched off.
Meanwhile, one of his classmates, Anish Deshpande, called the family here to say that Churi had gone missing and his room in the apartment was found locked. Deshpande informed the university authorities and the police, who, in turn, alerted the Indian Embassy. Sources said that he had left a letter in Kannada on the doorsteps of his room. The contents of the letter are not known. Ms. Churi said that her son had come to Bagalkot for the funeral of his father who died in a road accident on November 21 last year. He was disturbed after his father’s death, she added.
The family is trying to seek help from External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, through the MP and the district administration.
