Mangalore, May 15: In an atrocious act, a group of miscreants chased a newspaper agent to his home and assaulted him brutally and vandalized the home at Katipalla, on the outskirts of the city early on Wednesday morning.
The victim, identified as Abdul Salam, has been hospitalized with severe injuries on his head and other parts of the body.
According to the family sources of the victim, the incident occurred at around 4:45 a.m. when Mr Salam, had been carrying newspaper bundles on his motorbike for distribution.
When Abdul Salam reached Shamsuddin Circle (Main Circle) at second block, Katipalla, a group of youth, who had been engaged in decorating the street with green buntings for the inaugural ceremony of renovated building of Muhiyuddin Juma Masjid scheduled to be held on May 17 in the vicinity, began to hurl abuses against him without any provocation, sources said.
When Abdul Salam returned home, the miscreants chased him and barged into his house and attacked him with soda bottles. They also damaged furniture and ransacked the house. A severely injured Abdul Salam was later rushed to the hospital.
The victim has identified two of the accused as Zabiulla alias Jabbi son of late Mayyaddi and Irshad son of B Ismaeel. There were around 10 more miscreants along with the duo.
A complaint has been lodged with jurisdictional Surathkal Police Station in this regard.
