Manipal, Jun 26: Hundreds of activist of Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Wednesday took to the streets in Manipal to exert pressure on police to immediately arrest the culprits involved in gang-rape of a medical students.
The protesters issued a deadline of 24 hours to arrest the culprits and threatened to give a call for Udupi bandh if police failed to meet the deadline.
The agitators took out a march from Syndicate Circle, here, raising slogans against western culture, drug menace, alcoholism and other evils, converged at Tiger Circle.
Speaking on the occasion, Bajrang Dal leader Sharan Pumpwell lashed out at the police for failing to arrest real culprits of gang-rape case even a week after the incident.
"Udupi will observe bandh if the police fail to arrest the accused by Thursday evening,” he said.
“People of the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are losing trust in police, who have failed to curb drug menace in Manipal, which known as the educational hub,” he said.
Stating that Bajrang Dal will not tolerate if drug menace, pub culture and other evils continued to prevail in Manipal, Mr Pumpwell threaded that they will have no other option but resorting to moral policing, if police and government gave green signal to illegal activities.
